The Information and Knowledge Representation, Retrieval, and Reasoning Laboratory (IKR3 Lab), previously Information Retrieval Lab (IR Lab), was established in 2005 at the Department of Informatics, Systems, and Communication (DISCo), University of Milano-Bicocca.
The Head of the IKR3 Lab is Prof. Gabriella Pasi.
Research Context
Today the huge amount of content (including User-Generated Content) available on the Web has increased to a point that the need for effective systems that allow easy and flexible access to information relevant to specific user’s needs is motivating a big deal of research. Flexibility is meant the capability of the system to both manage imperfect (vague and/or uncertain) information, and to adapt its behavior to the user context.
Research Activities
The research activity undertaken by the IKR3 Lab is aimed at defining models and techniques that improve the limitations of current systems for Information Access. In particular, Information Retrieval and Information Filtering tasks are considered. The research activity that is undertaken at the IKR3 Lab also addresses the issues of Text Mining and Social Media Analytics.
Internationalization
The Information and Knowledge Representation, Retrieval, and Reasoning Laboratory has an international vocation and has been hosting several incoming Ph.D. students and visiting professors over the years.
