The Information Retrieval Laboratory (IR Lab) was established in 2005 at the Department of Informatics, Systems, and Communication (DISCo), University of Milan-Bicocca
Today the huge amount of content (including user-generated content) available on the Web has increased to a point that the need for effective systems that allow an easy and flexible access to information relevant to specific user’s needs is motivating a big deal of research. By flexibility is meant the capability of the system to both manage imperfect (vague and/or uncertain) information, and to adapt its behavior to the user context.
The research activity undertaken by the IR Lab is aimed at defining models and techniques that improve the limitations of current systems for the Information Access. In particular, Information Retrieval and Information Filtering task are considered. The research activity undertaken by the IRLab also addresses the issues of Text Mining and Social Media Analytics.
The Information Retrieval Laboratory has been hosting several visiting Ph.D. students and visiting professors.
